GOOD LUCK: The Beaver Creek Task Force is working with Knox County Stormwater Management, Knox County Parks and Recreation and the University of Tennessee on a $150,000 Beaver Creek restoration project funded by a Department of Agriculture grant. The project, which began last week and should be completed within the next several weeks, aims to vastly improve the water quality of a portion of the stream within the next year.

"When complete, our park and greenway visitors will see and experience the creek in a new way. It will definitely be an environmental asset for Halls Community Park," Rebekah Jane Justice, Knox County Parks and Greenways coordinator, said.

CONGRATS: The storm damage has been repaired and the final coat of paint has dried at the South Knoxville library branch. The public is invited to drop by the newly-refurbished South Knoxville library for a grand re-opening on Monday, Aug. 29.

The grand reopening celebration will feature family-friendly performances by magician Michael Messing at 4:30 p.m. and musician Sean McCollough from 6-7:30 p.m.

A late April hail storm severely damaged the roof. Repairs and replacement of portions of the collection cost approximately $175,000, which was covered by insurance.

BON APPETITE: Sequoyah Grille in Bearden has a new certified executive chef on board who has revamped the eatery Southwestern style.

Chef Deron Little, who owns Echo Bistro and Wine Bar in Bearden and Seasons Cafe in Farragut, has become a managing partner in the restaurant at 4429 Kingston Pike. Brothers Paul and Mike Murphy opened Sequoyah Grille in January after the previous restaurant, One Tree Grille, closed. Prior to that, it was Green Hills Grille.

GOOD LUCK: The Loudon City Council and Loudon County Commission on Monday approved an economic incentive package designed to lure a company code-named "Tango" to the county with a million-dollar investment and a 10-year, 50 percent tax break.

Random Act Kindness Day – 2011 « Living on Paint Creek

Yesterday morning I found that I was grouchier than a Bear that has just emerged from winter hibernation, and is powerfully hunger.  At first,I wasn’t sure why I was so out of sorts, and then I realize that the next day (today – September 4th) was a day I have chosen to do Random Act Kindnesses (RAK’s), as a way of honoring my youngest son life.  I lost him 5 years ago.  I wrote this blog  that explains the idea behind the RAK’s.  To read this post, click here .

I decided I needed to be kinder to myself and do some things to help me move through these feelings.  I went back to my roots.  When I was a teenager, and I was bothered by something, there were two things that I would do, that always seem to help me.  I would either go for a walk/hike in these mountains, or sit by the creek and listen to water.

I chose the later yesterday morning.  I went down and sat next to the creek for a good long while and just allowed my thoughts to flow freely.  After a while I sang a song that always brings me comfort, and I said a prayer.

I could feel that a lot of my grouchiness had slipped away, and decided I would head back to the house.  As soon as I got there, Danny asked me if I wanted to go to Hotsprings (he knows I love the little town of Hotsprings, NC).  I asked him why he was going and he said that our other son (Jeremiah) had called and he needed help with cutting out a tree stump on a steep hill.

I was relieved at the thought of this distraction today and it would be nice spending time with my eldest son.  I grabbed my cameras and my writing notebooks and we headed over to Hotsprings.  What a beautiful day it was.  The sun was shining, people were out and about everywhere in Hotsprings.  It was a day that felt like one I remembered from my childhood.  A lazy day of summer, where families and friends were milling around the streets of a small town and you could feel their contentment, their unspoken happiness.  It felt good.
