Alexander Payne's 'Descendants' to Close 49th New York Film Festival; Main ...
Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants” will close the 49th edition of the New York Film Festival, taking place September 30 - October 16, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, which organizes the annual event said Wednesday. Screening at Alice Tully Hall on Sunday, October 16, Payne’s latest will mark the director’s third visit to the event (his previous titles presented were “About Schmidt” and “Sideways”). Fox Searchlight is releasing the film on November 23rd. Also making a return to the festival stage is “On Cinema” (previously titled “The Cinema Inside Me”), featuring an in-depth, illustrated conversation with Payne.
NYFF’s main slate includes the already announced opener, Roman Polanski’s “Carnage,” Simon Curtis’ “My Week with Marilyn,” screening as the festival’s Centerpiece, and recently announced Galas for David Cronenberg’s “A Dangerous Method” and Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In.”
Additions unveiled today round out NYFF’s main slate of 27 feature films, including 23 features added Wednesday. In addition to Payne, other filmmakers joining the lineup include the Dardennes, Kaurismäki, von Trier, Wenders and more (full list and descriptions below).
The 2011 edition of NYFF will also feature what organizers describe as a “blend of programming to complement the main-slate of films,” including: the Masterworks programs, additional titles added to the previously announced “Ben Hur,” Nicholas Ray’s “We Can’t Go Home” and “Velvet Bullets and Steel Kisses: Celebrating the Nikkatsu Centennial,” as well as “Views from the Avant-Garde.” More special events and screenings will be announced in more detail soon.
“In many of the films in this year’s Festival, characters pass from recognition of a problem or situation to actual resistance,” commented Richard Peña, Selection Committee Chair & Program Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center in a statement. “This confrontational attitude is perhaps a sign of our increasingly polarized times.

Madleen Kane is a model and singer born in Malmo,Sweden in 1958 to a Swedish father and American mother. A former Elite fashion model, she had five Top 10 hits on the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, debuting in the late 70′s and peaking in the early eighties. During the heyday of international imports crashing North American shores, Madleen’s debut album “Rough Diamond”, started a bidding war. Originally released in France on CBS, it was soon after signed to Warner Brothers in North America. Buoyed by the title track, it became a huge club hit on the Billboard Dance Chart. Its North American release included a promo only remix done by engineer Jimmy Simpson. Other highlights of “Diamond” included sultry covers of “C’est Si Bon” and “Fever”, as well as the morning music classic “Touch My Heart”. Paris-based production team Michaele, Lana & Paul Sebastian produced the debut set. They are also known for their work on projects by the likes of Theo Vaness and one-off classic “Argentina Forever” by Pacific Blue both released on Prelude in the US “Cheri”, Kane’s 2nd CBS France/Warner Brothers release featured “Forbidden Love”, a dramatic pop opus arranged by Munich Machine mainstay Thor Baldursson. In the tradition of classic sidelong medleys made famous by the likes of Donna Summer and Cerrone, Madleen’s “A Side” suite of “Forbidden”, the title track, its breakdown “Fire In My Heart” and “Secret Love Affair” gave her another blockbuster club hit running 15 minutes plus in …
Goosebumps….this song still gives me goosebumps! DISCO AT IT’S FINEST! I remember playing this when it first came out, and packed my dance floor every single time. I’ve been a Disco/Club DJ since 1973, and am STILL playing music. Nothing today will ever compare to this era of dance music. DISCO STILL LIVES IN MY HEART!
