Most slides are Kodachrome my father. Much has been written about the inability of this scanner to scan Kodachrome slides and said about ICE4 does not work with Kodachrome. Well, I have some good news ICE4 The works extremely well for most. However, with Kodachrome slides that he does produce minor artifacts in about 5 percent of the slips. I scanned with ICE (not ICE4) always rescanned and if I find unacceptable artifacts. I noticed that the scanner function ICE was more likely to be confused by old Kodachrome slides where subjects were wearing shirts with stripes.The GEM ROC and DEE (the other pillars of the ICE4 other than the ice itself) work on Kodachrome slides as well, but I found that the results are unpredictable and that I could achieve better results in Photoshop myself much faster. The GEM ROC and DEE features simply took too long and slow scanning unacceptable. The results for me were not worth the time for scanning. So I've never used these features. But the "build" on the scanner I used nearly 100% of the time with great results - much better than the GEM ROC and DEE features.The scanner is fast and produce wonderful wonderful detailed scans, easy to show the grain in the transparancies in 3000 and 4000 dpi. Kodachrome slides were a challenge to the dynamic range of the scanner, but I think most of the shadow detail is there was extracted. With dark slides I used the gain function very useful all the way to turn two on the slides really dark. Unfortunately, Kodachrome, with all its many attributes, are considerable drawbacks, including a wide exposure latitude and very narrow shadow detail is simply lacking.I think the scanner accurately reproduces the information, including the colors of Kodachrome slides, with perhaps a slight bluish cast noticed in some cases.
