Megan Gale announced as new L'Oréal face
The assembled crowd knew it was something big – the new face of L’Oréal was about to be announced, and something of that magnitude in the beauty world could only be done with much fanfare and in a space fitting for such a coup – this person was to be the first Australian fronting the global brand.
And so, the crowd of beauty and magazine editors, TV personalities and execs gathered at the Australian Technology Park’s majestic locomotive workshop at Eveleigh, decked out with massive screens of past and current L’Oréal ambassadors – Jennifer Lopez , Eva Longoria , Diane Kruger , Andie Macdowell , Gwen Stefani , Claudia Schiffer , Linda Evangelista , Jane Fonda , Rachel Weisz , Patrick Dempsey , Gerard Butler and Hugh Laurie et al – to hear who the new spokesperson would be.
After a speech from L’Oréal Paris General Manager Mark O’Keefe (during which he revealed some startling stats: more than 3,400 researchers, in 18 research centres across the world, with a budget in excess of a billion dollars, produce more than 612 patents every calendar year for the L’Oréal brand), the big reveal took place: down the spot-lit stairs amongst giant gold letters spelling ‘L’Oréal’ strode uber model Megan Gale , slinked into a red Alex Perry dress. The new face – did we mention she’s the first Aussie? – was here.
Speeches followed (Megan declared she was still pinching herself and was finally relieved to be talking about something several months in the planning) and video montages. The teaser ads, which had been screening for days on Australian TV, were shown in their entirety, this time tagged with the much-anticipated advertisement featuring Gale - as the new face for the L’Oréal Elvive haircare brand.
