H.E. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori to inaugurate Trade Fair and Conference

With the Middle East region’s only trade and networking event for the lighting design and technology industries taking place in under two weeks, there is great interest in the event being generated among lighting product manufacturers, designers, architects and developers.

Light Middlle East 2011, which will run from September 12 to 14 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, is set to turn the spotlight on the latest trends and developments that are currently impacting the worldwide industry and highlight the range and scope of the Middle East market. The trade fair and conference will be inaugurated by the UAE Minister for Economy, HE Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori.

“Going by current trends in the region, there is a lot of interest in the latest developments in the lighting design and technology fields, especially with regard to its impact on the environment and potential for energy and cost savings,” said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “The global lighting market is currently going through tremendous changes. Increased efficiency standards, a growing concern with energy efficiency and breakthroughs in the LED sector are all factors that are affecting the market,“ he added.

These trends are underlined in the latest analysis from IMS Research, which indicated that the world lighting market in 2010 was worth $83 billion, with lamps making up 24% of the total.  By 2015, the value of the market will surge to $115 billion, with lamps making up 33% of the total.

According to the findings, this market growth is driven by advancements in LED technology, which are increasing their efficiency, while decreasing their overall price.  Currently, LEDs make up 10% of the total lighting market but by 2015, this is expected to increase to 46%.

The trend towards utilising LED and CFL technology as a greener alternative is being increasingly seen in many of the large-scale infrastructure projects in the region such as the Yas Hotel and Marina, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the upcoming Dubai Waterfront. Experts estimate that GCC countries could save as much as US$ 400 million in energy bills and 5.1 megatonnes of CO2 emissions annually by switching to LED lighting technology**.

Cheap Public Transportation to Frankfurt Airport: Getting to FRA by S ...

Getting to Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is easy by public transportation or private car from downtown Frankfurt am Main and many other towns in Germany’s Rhine-Main area. S-Bahn trains are the fastest and cheapest way to reach Frankfurt Airport from the Hauptbahnhof area as well as from nearby cities including Mainz and Wiesbaden. Buses are available to Höchst, Heidelberg, Mannheim, and Strasbourg. Taxis are reasonably cheap and convenient especially to hotels not in the immediate station area.

By Car to Frankfurt International Airport

Frankfurt International Airport (Flughafen Frankfurt) is very conveniently located at the intersection of two major Autohahnen only minutes to the west of Frankfurt am Main. From the Autobahn A3, use exit 50 (Frankfurt Flughafen) to reach the airport. Travelers on the Autobahn A5 should use the Frankfurter Kreuz interchange and the A3 to reach the airport.

Taxis are readily available at Frankfurt Airport and due to the short distance from downtown Frankfurt am Main not particularly expensive. The taxi fee from Frankfurt Airport to the downtown area is according to the meter but should be around €20 with traveling times ranging from as short as 15 minutes to around half an hour. In rush hour, a fixed rate can be agreed in advance and should be around €25 for travel from Frankfurt Airport to downtown hotels. For small groups and travelers with heavy luggage the convenience of going directly to a downtown or Messe-area hotel is often worth the splurge.

All major car rental agencies are represented at Frankfurt Airport. However, picking up a rental car away from the airport avoid compulsory German airport (and train station) pick-up surcharges.

Airport shuttle services are also available but compare prices and conditions as fares widely vary between airport shuttle service providers. It is often worth enquiring from hotels or tourist information offices in smaller towns if local shuttles and long-distance taxis offer cheaper services than national airport shuttle companies.
