Geocove, Inc. Releases iPhone Application that maps Emergency Evacuation Zones ...
--- GeoCover, Inc., which provides a proprietary technology that helps states, counties and municipalities use GIS to inventory and assess the damage in case of storms or other natural disasters, released a special iPhone application LeeEvac the emergency evacuation zones in Lee County maps and updates the team at the moment of Lee County emergency management makes changes.
Karyn Tareen, President and CEO at GeoCover, Inc., said the soft LeeEvac is available on the Apple App Store.
"Residents can use LeeEvac to find their current location GPS, touch the map, or find an address in Lee County to see if they are in an evacuation zone active," said Tareen.
"If an evacuation is ordered for their region, instructions on how to find additional information will be instantly provided with updates," said Tareen.
Tareen said Lee County plans to release an Android version of the application later this fall.
Gerald Campbell, chief planner at the Department of Lee County Emergency Management, said the tool could help save lives.
"The ability to effectively inform people that may be necessary to evacuate is an essential part of protecting our community," said Campbell.
"The app does LeeEvac familiar use technology to provide personalized information to help people protect themselves and their families," he said.
GeoCover is a member of the University of Central Florida business incubation program in the Central Florida Research Park in East Orlando.
