Brush downtown construction starting next week
Construction work in the 100 block of Clayton Street will begin next week, according to Darin Fossum, project manager and estimator of Connell Resources, Inc.Last week Fossum, along with Jeff Laugel, onsite site manager for the project who is in charge of the day-to-day applications, met with business and property owners in the area to explain the process of the Phase 2B work.
Although workers are in the area this week, Brush City Administrator Monty Torres explained the physical portion of work will not begin until Sept. 6. "I want to remind everyone that this has been a high priority for the city for the last few years," Torres told those attending. "The council has made it one of our top three priorities for the city."
In partnering with the Brush Area Chamber of Commerce over the past several years, the city has another high priority in the storm water issue for the downtown area, which, according to Torres, is a project for next year. City officials are already in the process of working on funding for the future project, he stated.
Funding for the 100 block of Clayton Street comes from several sources, including Ballot 2A, Torres stated. Another is through the increase of storm water fees over the past couple of years. Adding to the project are funds of $300,000 from the Colorado Department of Transportation.
"One of the things that happens when you take state and federal money is that you have to follow their rules," he noted, adding that costs in the project could increase, depending on the rules and regulations associated with the project.
The project for the entire downtown began 2 1/2 years ago with residents and business/property owners providing their opinions on what they would like the area to look like. "If you look at the 300 and 400 blocks of Edison, that gives you a good idea of what you will see on Clayton Street," the administrator stated.
